In 1993, High Sierra began manufacturing a motorized antenna that was 3 feet tall and used a screwdriver motor. While the basic design of these early antennas was very similar to the current HS-1800/Pro, much has changed in the last 14 years. For example, we haven't used screwdriver motors in many years so you won't see us calling it a "screwdriver antenna." The HS-1800/Pro uses the famous Black Hawk Motor: quieter, more powerful and much more reliable than any screwdriver motor. High Sierra has manufactured about 20,000 antennas of this design! They are in use all over the world on vehicles and at fixed locations by ham radio operators, governments, armed forces, emergency relief organizations and by many companies. One of the reasons for the popularity of the HS-1800/Pro is that it tunes continuously from 3.5MHz to about 30MHz. With the whip removed, it will also cover 6 meters. The HS-1800/Pro is rated at 1000 watts PEP, weighs less than 6 pounds and can be installed just about anywhere. It is a very versatile antenna which can be used at a home or mobile.

The HS-1800/Pro is available in hammer black powder-coated baked-on durable finishes. We don't spray paint the aluminum tubes. Powdering coating is a much more durable and expensive finish.

The HS-1800/Pro is designed to work with our HS-201C/SS Stainless Steel Mounting Bracket. The brass base of the HS-1800/Pro mates with the brass tapered stud on the mount. This allows the antenna to be removed from the mount in just a few seconds. The coax connector and the ground strap connection are on the mounting bracket and not on the antenna. This very clever design provides a convenient way to quickly remove the antenna when needed. In other words, you're going to want this mount.

Contact with the coil is made using our patented stainless steel contact spring. We don't use hazardous Beryllium Fingerstock that is glued in place as other do! Our contact spring is easily replaced as part of annual maintenance.

The HS-1800/Pro comes with our standard HS-800/Pro Controller and RF Filter Assembly. You may substitute one can also get one of our EZ-Tune Controllers in place of the HS-800/Pro Standard Controller (comes standard with the antenna). It adds just $50 to the price. You may substitute one of our EZ-Tune Controllers in the options box on the bottom left side of this page. In the thumbnails above you'll find a picture of a see-through HS-1800/Pro.

The HS-1800/Pro Antenna:

Tunes from 3.5 to 30MHz with our 6 foot whip.
Tune from 6.9MHz to 60MHz with no whip.
Typical SWR is 1.5:1 or less when properly installed.
Rated at 1000 watts PEP.

We also now have an extension tube machined to match the HS-1800/Pro. It is our HS-200. It has a machined coupling that inserts into the bottom of the HS-1800/Pro to make it 2 feet taller.
